Abstract

Juan Bautista Alberdi is, in Argentina, one of the first intellectuals worried about defining philosophy and thinking its relation with politics. In this paper we inscribe his formulations in the frame of the contemporary French debates concerning the 'official philosophy', analyzing the different positions on these debates, and pointing out the diverse edges of this inscription. We deal with some of the main motives of the French philosophers, trying to show the conceptual context used by Alberdi to think the place of philosophy in the complex Argentine scene during Rosas's government
