Abstract

The paper discusses the role of language in the tradition of transcendental Philosophical tradition. The first part points at the non-linguistic nature of the categories of understanding in Kantian philosophy; after that, it points out the theoretical dificulties posited by the dualist character of this viewpoint; finally, it presents the Fichtean solution to these aporias. In the second part, the paper addresses and examines the transformation of Kantian philosophy posited by "Transcendental Pragmatics", focusing especially on the linguistic nature of the "categories" of valid knowledge. It aims at appraising the theoretical risks of absolutizing the role of language in the cognitive process; to conclude, it advances a distinction between the Kantian theory of knowledge and the Fichtean foundations of knowledge
